What?

The LL Kakadu library (llkdu) is used to decode textures in the SecondLife viewer. Since it is under commercial license, most Third Party Viewers (3PV) uses an alternative called OpenJPEG which is less stable and fast than the KDU based option. Most alternative viewers will attempt to copy those libraries, plus the commercial voice components included with the regular SecondLife viewer, but that won't work if an old viewer is not present on your computer at the moment of installing the 3PV. One exception made is Emerald which have their own KDU based library (emkdu.dll) which can also be replaced with Linden Lab's llkdu if you chose not to trust that component.

Why?

If your Third Party viewer crashes a lot randomly, it may be a solution for gaining more stability. If you don't trust 3rd party KDU libraries, this will let you use the official Linden Lab libraries.

How?

1. Install an old SecondLife viewer (1.23.5) from:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions

2. Browse into this folder:
C:/Program Files/SecondLife/

3. Copy the llkdu.dll library file to your new viewer folder (Imprudence, or Rainbow, or Emerald, or whatever)

4. If you want Voice, copy those files too:

SLVoice.exe
vivoxsdk.dll
ortp.dll
wrap_oal.dll

5. Restart your viewer

PS: you can uninstall the old viewer once this is done.

----- FOR LINUX

- There are two files are in the "bin" directory (inside SL): libllkdu.so and SLVoice.
- There are also several files in the "lib" directory: libkdu.so, libalut.so, libortp.so, and libvivoxsdk.so. They should be copied to the same places (bin and lib) inside Imprudence.

----- FOR MACS

- Right-click or Ctrl-click on the Second Life app in Applications, and choose "Show Package Contents" from the right-click menu.
- That will open a new Finder window showing the directories inside the Second Life app.
- Then open Contents, then Resources. Select these files: SLVoice, libalut.dylib, libopenal.dylib, libortp.dylib, libvivoxsdk.dylib, and libllkdu.dylib.
- Right click and copy those files. Then open up the Imprudence app in the same way as before, go to Contents, Resources, then paste the files there.
