Final thoughts on Two Black Cadillacs and @CarrieUnderwood's...

I don't want to give too much away, I will just say for me Two Black Cadillacs was one of the biggest surprises on the album. It's unlike anything I would ever expect from Carrie, but that's not a bad thing. It's not really a ballad in the traditional sense. I would describe it as kind of dark and haunting. Honestly, I don't know why, but I kept thinking it reminded me of something I would expect to hear on a soundtrack to something like HBO's True Blood or Sopranos, and I'm not sure how to explain why. It just paints this picture and tells this story with a very intense kind of feeling. When I realized what the song was about I remember looking at the people in the room with me and asking  "Whoa, was that song about what I think it was about and where did THAT come from?!". And it's track 3 on the album, after Good Girl, which as you know is very hard charging and in your face, and then Blown Away, which I describe as The Eurythmics meets Martina McBride's Independence Day - another pretty intense song. Then Two Black Cadillacs. So after starting with those three songs I thought, "I can't imagine what we're about to hear on the rest of this album".  But then, it goes on a musical journey of different sounds and influences. There are songs that sound more familiar, in terms of what you'd expect from Carrie and then some unexpected, fun twists like One Way Ticket or Cupid's Got A Shotgun. That's why I say it is a VERY diverse album.  It is a definite evolution for Carrie.

A lot of these songs left me thinking about them long after they were over but just from a true enjoyment standpoint I liked Leave Love Alone. The minute it opened with a very bright mandolin it got my attention, then the chorus has this great groove that made me want to move with it. It's not the most intense or artistic or shocking or life-changing song on the album, I just remember it got my attention when it started, it felt good and it made me smile, so that's why I liked it.

On that note, I look forward to everybody being able to hear the album and picking their own favorites and forming their own opinions. I've tried to offer my opinions on the sound of the record without giving too much of a "review" because I want you to be able to decide what you think. I think you will be pleased. May 1st is almost here!! :)
