Doctor Who DVD Changes

The following is a list of restorations, modifications, authoring errors, restoration mistakes and general glitches that have been found on Doctor Who DVDs.

It is not intended as a slate or direct attack towards any members of the Restoration Team, nor is it meant to be an apology or an argument in favour of their work. It's more in the spirit of a customer shopping guide, to help you decide if any of these changes deters you or not from buying the DVDs.

==The Aztecs==

''Restoration notes''

-The first 1960s story on DVD to undergo a complete "vidfire" treatment, to restore the 16mm film copies to something that approximates their originally broadcast videotape look.

-Standard audio/visual cleanup.

-A special feature on the DVD does show how the RT could replace a studio wall, but explains that this would not be in the spirit of restoration and the original version (with studio wall still plainly visible) is still the default.

''Alterations''

-Closing titles remade from scratch (the first instance of this).

''Mistakes and Omissions''

- A sequence with Susan which was originally a filmed insert (the actress was taking holidays that week, and the brief pre-recorded 16mm film sequences of her were inserted into the story at the time of studio recording) have been mistakingly vidfired, when all her scenes should still have a film look.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Dalek Invasion of Earth==

''Alterations''

-Many artifacts of the original physical tape edits to the Quad videotapes have been "chopped out".

-Sound sync within the serial seems to change from shot-to-shot on the masters. There have been extensive revisions for the DVD.

-Episode One, the final shot of the saucer landing had some studio talkback interference on it. Flying Saucer noise (absent on transmission) has been added over the top in an attempt to disguise it. Various other instances of talkback have been edited out of the serial.

??-In Episode Five, about eight minutes in there is a late cut where the old woman she says "London once". Sound has been sampled from elsewhere to give: "I went to London once".??

-In Episode Six after the big explosion (around 15m in) on broadcast you could still hear the dalek countdown effect for a while. This was has been edited out.

-In Episode Six a couple of stray Dalek voices got played in to the final scenes at low level. These have been partially removed.

-In Episode Six the sound into the closing music has been "tidied up".

?-The fist shot of the TARDIS materializing has been completely remade in After Effects using excerpts from the shots because the camera became slightly misaligned between takes on location resulting in a slight blur. The captions over this shot are now also not original.??

-For all episodes, end credit rollers have been remade.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-A shot of the Daleks in Trafalgar Square has been digitally altered in an unconvincing attempt to remove a passing van in the distance. This was deemed too poor to include on the final DVD, however the master supplied for authoring erroneously contained the offending edit.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Rescue==

''Restoration notes''

-Vidfire, and digital video and audio cleanup.

-The Restoration Team's desire to present the maximum available picture area has resulted in a 'dark banding' along the top of the frame being visible at various points during the story. This would normally have been hidden by the telecine process (or on an older television's overscan). It appears that the version released on VHS may have been cropped to hide this problem.

''Alterations''

-None reported.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

==The Romans==

''Restoration notes''

-Vidfire, and digital video and audio cleanup.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Web Planet==

''Restoration notes''

-Vidfire, and digital video and audio cleanup.

''Alterations''

-Sound throughout the production has been quietened (but 'rarely' removed) to lessen the impact of production noises, such as the creaking of the Zarbi costumes. This includes a scene involving a Zarbi running headlong into camera. The noise of this collision has been reduced to help lessen the impact.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The War Machines==

''Restoration notes''

-Vidfire, standard video and audio cleanup, recreated credits.

''Alterations''

-None reported.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-The recreation of the opening and closing credits has led to a mistake on the title captions of episode two. The slide showing the numeral 2 appears with four squares lining the left side of the screen, those squares should not appear.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

== LOST IN TIME (DVD Collection of extant 1960s episodes)==

'''The Celestial Toymaker Episode 4'''

''Restoration Notes''

Full vidfire, digital audio and video clean up.

''Alterations''

An attempt has been made to paint out a boom mike in one scene, leading to a large grey box appearing on the screen in its place.

''Mistakes and Ommisions''

During the process of recreating the title sequences, the master has been taken from the release of The Aztecs. As a result of this a few frames from the beginning of one of The Aztecs' episodes can be seen immediately following the title sequence, if you pause the DVD player and go frame-by-frame. This was, obviously, not on the original transmission.

''Authoring Issues''

None reported.

==The Tomb of the Cybermen==

''Restoration notes''

-Despite the relatively recent addition of vidfire to 1960s stories on VHS (restoring the videotape look of the original broadcast), this story is presented 'as is" on 16mm film. Two short sequences are however provided vidfired as extras.

-A featurette on the disc details the digital restoration that has taken place.

''Alterations''

-None reported.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

Audio and picture are slightly out of synch for much of the first episode.

==The Mind Robber==

''Alterations''

-During Episode 1, Jamie runs out of the TARDIS and disappears into the white void. Originally the Doctor ran over to the door and partially faded out too, presumably because the white void effect used to obliterate Jamie wasn't faded back out quick enough so that it didn't obscure the Doctor. In the DVD version this has been changed and now the Doctor doesn't fade at all.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Seeds of Death==

''Restoration notes''

-Vidfire, and digital video and audio cleanup.

''Alterations''

-The credit sequence "rollers" at the end of each episode were by this stage regularly being digitally recreated from scratch using modern equipment, alongside the opening titles.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-The final part of episode 5 was accidentally vidfired.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Spearhead from Space==

''Restoration notes''

-Sound quality has been cleaned up and enhanced. Images have undergone colour regrading to provide a uniform look, and dust and dirt specks that were present on the original broadcast have been removed.

''Alterations''

-The Fleetwood Mac music heard in the factory sequence on the original broadcast was removed for copyright reasons.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Claws of Axos==

''Alterations''

-Episode 1, 3'17": the scene where Jo and Bill Filer walk in on a meeting between the Doctor, The Brigadier, and Mr Chinn. This was an edit point in the original, and there is no sound of the door opening - we cut to it once it has opened. Sound from the original studio recording has been used to overlap the edit so that the door can be heard opening.

-Towards the end of Episode 1, after the Master has introduced himself to Filer in the Axon ship, we cut back to the Axonite demonstration. Originally the sound level dipped here to disguise a cough from a member of the studio crew. The dip and cough have been edited out.

-Opening and closing credits have been remade.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Three Doctors==

''Restoration notes''

-Visual and audio cleanup. Video dropout, flashes, dirt on film stock and other artifacts that were all present on original broadcast have been removed. Colour, brightness and contrast levels have been altered to maintain uniformity.

''Alterations''

-All the title sequences have been completely remade from scratch to give complete uniformity with one another, which has by this point become a standard restoration policy.

-A scene where Patrick Troughton's reflection was previously visible in the time rotor of the TARDIS before he appears in Part One has been altered to remove his reflection. This is despite the fact that the commentators on the audio commentary specifically reference it, causing them to talk about something the audience at home can no longer actually see. The commentary was clearly recorded before this sequence was changed.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

-CSO edges on various shots have been smeared to reduce video noise.

-A consequence of the way the original production team replayed some of the film sequences into studio is that certain fields were lightly smeared. Various techniques have been used to remove this.

-Various edits and flash frames from the filmed sequences have been removed and altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-The scene at the end of Part Three, where a UNIT soldier says "Holy moses", is mistakingly repeated a second later. This was corrected on the subsequent Region 1 release in America.

==Carnival of Monsters==

''Restoration notes''

-Digital cleanup of all picture and sound elements.

-An alternate version of the ending scenes, which Barry Letts replaced on a 1992 repeat, are included as an optional extra. The "as broadcast in 1973" version is the default.

''Alterations''

-Opening and closing credits have been remade.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Time Warrior==

''Alterations''

- The opening and closing credits have been remade.

- Many "late-cued background sounds" have been moved.

- Scenes set in the castle of Edward of Wessex have had background noise treated.

- Film inserts from the end of Episode Two have had mains hum filtered.

- In episodes Three and Four, some film sequences were very bass-light and thin sounding, possibly due to generator or traffic noise having been filtered in the original mix. Some additional background woodland atmosphere has been added "to give the scenes more body."

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

- The credit caption for David Daker (Irongron) and John Carney (Bloodaxe) in Episode One was omitted during the process of remaking the credit sequences.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Robot==

''Alterations''

-In episode two, there is a speeded-up videodisk shot of the Doctor typing a letter for Sarah, which has been unpicked and retimed.

-The shot of the model tank at end of episode three was retimed in an effort to smooth out the slightly jerky motion.

-Numerous tweaks were made to CSO shots to fill in some holes caused by the robot's metallic body reflecting the key colour.

-A white spot due to a tube camera defect was visible on many shots, especially outside. This has been edited out using information from surrounding pixels.

-Numerous original audio edits have been adjusted.

-Some radio mic interference on the Robot voice has been partially removed.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

-Opening and closing titles remade using Adobe fonts

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Ark in Space==

''Restoration notes''

-Studio recording has been digitally improved, with video dropouts and other broadcast artifacts removed. Audio has been digitally altered to remove audible clicks and pops in the soundtrack.

-In contrast with the usual Restoration Team policy of regrading the title sequences to give a uniform look, the titles of Part One - which were noteably tinted yellow rather than the usual blue on original broadcast - are presented as originally seen.

-New CGI effects are provided as an optional extra.

''Alterations''

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Hand of Fear==

''Alterations''

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

-Opening and closing titles remade using Adobe fonts

-Extensive audio edits, looping background atmospherics to disguise original edit points, etc.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Robots of Death==

''Restoration notes''

-Digital noise reduction has taken place, cleaning up - but by no means cleasning - the picture. The distinction is that it looks clearer but is still noticeably the same transfer as used on the original broadcast. For an example of this, "CSO lines" around characters when they stand in front of blue screens into which graphics would be keyed later are still present and correct, where later releases would remove these kinds of originally broadcast technical artifacts completely.

''Alterations''

-The film colour has been regraded to maintain a uniform look between model scenes (shot on 16mm film) and the studio scenes.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Horror of Fang Rock==

''Alterations''

-A composite shot of the Doctor hanging from a window on the outside of the lighthouse has been edited. The original video effect was laid over a filmed backdrop which has been artificially stabilized.

-Numerous original audio edits have been adjusted.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

-Opening and closing titles remade using Photoshop grabs from original.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Invisible Enemy==

''Restoration notes''

-The usual clean-up and restoration.

''Alterations''

-Opening and closing credits have been remade.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-A major authoring error results in a chapter of episode 3 playing out of sequence. Replacement discs are available from 2/Entertain through the post.

==The Invasion of Time==

''Restoration notes''

-The usual clean-up and restoration.

''Alterations''

-The colour grading has again been commented on by many as being oversaturated, particularly the reds.

-Opening and closing credits have been remade.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-Intended optional information text for the photo gallery is missing.

==The Pirate Planet==

''Alterations''

- The opening and closing credits have been remade.

- Film sequences are from a new transfer, incorporating up to 10% more visible picture.

- All film sequences involving gunfire, and the Mentiads' mental projection ray, have had the video effects remade in Adobe After Effects.

- Colour, brightness and contrast levels have been altered.

- During Part Four a scene with a 2D chromakeyed wrench has been altered. The wrench was 'cut out' from the shot and the movement as it rises from the floor was recreated. Originally as the wrench hit an instrument panel and the equipment exploded, the wrench vanished, suspended in front of the blast for a few frames and then disappearing. In the remade version, the wrench spins towards the camera "to help 'sell' the effect better."

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==The Stones of Blood==

''Restoration notes''

-The usual clean-up and restoration.

''Alterations''

- The opening and closing credits have been remade.

- Colour, brightness and contrast levels have been altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-White speckles are evident throughout the story

==Destiny of the Daleks==

''Alterations''

-Opening and closing credit sequences have been remade (something which was publically condemned on the internet by one noteable member of the Restoration Team).

-Brand new CGI special effects are included as an optional extra.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-Not strictly the same as a "restoration mistake", but a sequence in the optional CGI effects seen explosions added to a scene of the Movellan spaceship, as a means to explain why there is visible turbulence on Skaro... despite the fact that dialogue specifically states that this turbulence is being caused by the mining going on underground. It is expected that this will be corrected on the subsequent Region 1 DVD release in America, with the CGI explosions in this scene being removed entirely even when the CGI option is turned "on". This "error" will not even be noticable to anyone who watches the default version 'without' these CGI effects.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Logopolis==

''Restoration notes''

-Complete digital restoration.

''Alterations''

-Opening and closing credits have been remade. Contrast, colour and brightness levels have been altered.

-Digital alteration to studio soundtrack in the middle of Part Two, where dialogue had to be "looped" (or "dubbed") later by Tom Baker and Matthew Waterhouse because the mechanisms inside the TARDIS console prop made it impossible to record their voices. The dialogue has now been digitially "fitted" to match the movement of the actors lips as closely as possible.

- Instances of studio noise have been treated, often entailing reconstructing the music and effects from master elements.

- The Cloister Bell sound effect was miscued in Part One, leading to Adric pointing out that it has stopped when it hadn't. This sound effect has been moved.

- In Part Two, the missing sound effect of the TARDIS doors opening at one point has been added.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None resported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Castrovalva==

''Restoration notes''

-The usual clean-up and restoration.

''Alterations''

- The opening and closing credits have been remade.

- Colour, brightness and contrast levels have been altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-The Peter Howell music video is missing its 5.1 soundtrack. This will be included again on the Four to Doomsday DVD release.

==Black Orchid==

''Alterations''

- Opening and closing credits have been remade.

- Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered. This quote from a poster at Oh Gee: "... yet again the colour grading has been taken way too far, and actually makes the whole production look worse than it should; the studio material isn't too bad to be fair, but the film material is appalling - the greens are a bit over-ripe, but the reds and oranges are so overpowering I've actually had to turn the colour down on my TV to watch it. The actors look like they've been microwaved; Michael Cochrane seems to have bright orange lipstick; the police sergeant seems to have bizarre deep red shadows under his helmet; the reds in the costumes and on Lady Cranleigh's lips are shockingly over-bright; the image appears to be more soft focussed than it needs to be... I could go on."

- The original cut camera negatives were run through a telecine machine in order to gain as much definition and image area as possible. However, cut negatives aren't designed to be run on telecines, the splices causing picture distortion as they go through the gate, typically causing a little hop just before a shot change. Although some work went into trying to digitally stabilise and remove these hops, the result is that frame jitters occur throughout the film material. "Almost as if every now and then a frame becomes ever so slightly distorted compared to the rest of its surrounding frames. It happens often, regularly and is a little distracting."

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Enlightenment==

''Alterations''
Optional CGI special effects.

''Mistakes and Omissions''
During the process of recreating of the end credits, the title credit for actor Tony Caunter (who played 'Jackson') has been mistakingly ommited, so Caunter is no longer credited on this episode.

''Authoring issues''
- None reported.

==The Five Doctors==
'''(The Five Doctors - Special Edition)'''

The original release of '''The Five Doctors''' on DVD was a "extended special edition" version, with lengthened sequences and brand new computer generated imagery (CGI) special effects replacing the older ones.

Assembled entirely by the Restoration Team with no input from the original production personel, it did not have the blessing of the story's Director (Peter Moffat), nor of Doctor Who's producer during the 1980s, John Nathan-Turner, both of whom were publically opposed to it. The writer of the story, Terrance Dicks, was also highly skeptical of certain creative decisions made when he recorded an audio commentary for it in 2001.

This "special edition" was previously released on VHS, but has never been broadcast on television. The main differences made to this "special edition" include:

''Alterations''

-Picture has been "cleaned up". Colour quality has been regraded throughout, to give a uniform look to all the location scenes and film stock regardless of weather conditions etc having affected the original shoot. A full Dolby Stereo soundtrack has been added.

-The black obelisk time scoop, perhaps the stories most recognisable icon, has been replaced with a CGI "cone" effect.

-The sequence with the Dalek has brand new "laser bolt" effects added, the same as those used on the 1988 story '''Remembrance of the Daleks'''.

-Lightning effects used in the Death Zone sequences and the "chessboard" sequence have been replaced with brand new CGI effects.

-The sequences with the Raston Robot have been changed to make the film edits when it jumps in and out of vision completely smooth (the broadcast version these edits were bulky and obvious).

-The wire, used to guide the spear from the Raston Robot's arm, has been digitally removed.

-In the scene where a group of Cybermen are massacred by the Raston Robot, new effects have been added to the Cybermen's weapons to make it appear that they are fighting back. As originally broadcast, they merely marched forward and were killed.

-The scenes taken from the 1979 story '''Shada''' have been changed, so that the fourth Doctor is dropped back down by the time scoop at the end of the story in the exact same place where he was picked up. In the original, a different shot was used. This decision was taken in order to make the incomplete '''Shada''' canonical.

-Several scenes have been replaced with alternative takes, such as the scene where a character is threatened with the mind probe. Their inclusion seems to have been made simply to give the story a slightly different feel, but they do nothing to enhance the whole: in fact, many of them include inferior performances than the original takes.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-The only special feature included on the original "special edition" DVD, a music only soundtrack, has been authored incorrectly, and runs 10% slower than the real soundtrack. This is because the original track, which was sampled at 48 KHz, was incorrected mastered on the isolated track as 44.1 KHz. In another portent of things to come, the subsequent American (Region 1) release of the DVD corrected this problem, leaving UK buyers with an inferior product.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

'''(The Five Doctors - 2008 edition)'''

''Alterations''

-Picture has been "cleaned up". Colour quality has been regraded throughout, to give a uniform look to all the location scenes and film stock regardless of weather conditions etc having affected the original shoot.

-The "original black obelisk" timescoop effect has been replaced with a brand new "black obelisk" created using CGI. While resembling the original effect reasonably closely compared to the CGI cone of the Special Edition, it is still an incongruous addition. This change was made because they could not regrade the picture without going back to the clean source, and after doing this it was impossible to use the exact "original" effect as seen on broadcast. A duplicate was created entirely from scratch using modern equipment. It is not the original video effect.

-The sequences with the Raston Robot have been changed to make the film edits when it jumps in and out of vision completely smooth (in the broadcast version these edits were bulky and obvious due to the changing weather conditions while filming).

-The wire used to guide the spear from the Raston Robot's arm, has been digitally removed.

-Despite being labelled "The Transmission Version" it is not, strictly, presented as it was when it was first transmitted.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

- During the Raston Robot sequence, when the robot "jumps" and disappears, there was originally a layer of smoke on the screen which helped to disguise the jump cut. This layer of smoke has been mistakingly ommited during the restoration process. When asked why this happened, the Restoration Team's Steve Roberts simply replied that he had "forgot" that this smoke layer was there.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Warriors Of The Deep==

''Alterations''

- Opening and closing credits have been remade.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered. Most obvious on this story, as it was previously famous for looking too far bright. It no longer does.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Resurrection of the Daleks==

''Restoration notes''

-Standard audio and visual cleanup. Colour, brightness and contrast levels have all been altered.

-A full Dolby Ditigal 5.1 Surround audio mix is offered as an optional extra.

''Alterations''

-The story is provided in 4 x 25 minute format as originally intended by the production team, but not as originally broadcast. The original broadcast seen it edited into 2 x 50 minute episodes due to coverage of the 1984 olympic games. The 2 x 50 minute version ("as broadcast") was the version that was previously released on VHS.

-The original telecine of film sequences was edited in to make the filmed location shots two generations higher than originally on the broadcast master. A side effect is that:

-The TARDIS materialisation at the docklands has been completely remade from scratch to incorporate the higher generation film sequences. A slight camera move occurred during the original composite, which the production team at the time corrected as best they could. This is now absent from the DVD version.

-A VT "slow motion" scene in Part One has been completely retimed. It is noticably less jerky than it was on broadcast.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-On earlier editions, the default sound was the 5.1 mix.

==The Caves of Androzani==

''Restoration notes''

-Standard colour regrading, to provide a uniform look between location scenes and studio. Tape dropouts have also been repaired.

''Alterations''

-Standard colour regrading, to provide a uniform look between location scenes and studio.

-An effect where the matte painting of the alien landscape visibly wobbled against the film scenes at the beginning of Part One has been digitally fixed.

This was made the "default" version with the complete blessing of director Graeme Harper. However, a version of Part One with the dodgy effects shot present and correct is included as a bonus option.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Vengeance on Varos==

''Restoration notes''

-Digital clean up of video tape elements. Video dropouts have been removed. Noise reduction, etc. All standard restoration, no additions.

''Alterations''

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-None reported.

''Authoring issues''

-During the authoring of the DVD, an error meant that the "information text" extra feature dissappears during Part Two. This was corrected for the subsequent Region 1 DVD release in America, and also the Region 4 DVD release in Australia.

==Revelation of the Daleks==

''Restoration notes''

-Full audio and picture clean up. A Dolby 5.1 Surround stereo mix is provided as an optional extra.

''Alterations''

-Title sequences have all been remade.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

-Optional replacement CGI effects sequences.

-On the Dolby 5.1 mix, the Dalek voices have been completely changed.

-Also on the Dolby 5.1 mix, several actors have recorded lines of dialogue in 2005 which have then been placed on the new sound mix. This was done because several pieces of dialogue -- such as Orcini shouting "Bostock!" at one point -- were for some reason not on the 'clean' footage, and were therefore unavailable for adaptation to the new soundtrack mix.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-Various commercial music tracks heard during sequences with the DJ - most noteably Jimi Hendrix - have been removed for copyright reasons. An opportunity to include these deleted tracks in a re-release as part of the Davros DVD boxset in 2007 (after the copyright legislation that had made their inclusion impossible originally had been rewritten to make it possible to use them) was not taken up, and that version is still minus these tracks.

''Authoring issues''

-There have been many reports of certain DVD players "freezing" when they reach a certain point where the seamless branching of the DVD is supposed to be able to tell the difference between whether the optional CGI effects sequences are "on" or "off".

==The Trial of a Timelord==

''Restoration notes''

-Standard audio/visual cleanup.

''Alterations''

-Mark Ayres has replaced the theme tune on all episodes with a version that has more bass.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-The 'tractor-beam door' sound effect during the opening shot was ommited during the clean-up process.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Delta and the Bannermen==

''Restoration notes''

-None reported.

-Standard audio/visual cleanup.

''Alterations''

-None reported.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-The standard recreation/replacement of title and end credits has resulted in a mistake at the end of episode two. Anita Graham, Richard Mitchley, and Leslie Meadows are all incorrectly credited.

''Authoring issues''

-None reported.

==Remembrance of the Daleks==

'''Remembrance of the Daleks - 2001 edition'''

''Restoration notes''

-"Tape dropouts" have been repaired.

''Alterations''

-Two 'The Beatles' music tracks included on the soundtrack have been removed for copyright reasons and replaced with cover versions.

-Contrast, colour and brightness have been digitally altered.

''Mistakes and Omissions''

-A remastering error seen a special effect of a Dalek laser bolt having been removed in the scene where it exterminates a soldier in Part One. The soldier extermination effect is still there, but the laser bolt that hits him is not. This was corrected for the subsequent Region 1 release.

''Authoring issues''

-If "Play all" is selected, Episode four plays choppily for the first 2 minutes (reported only on R1 version).

'''Remembrance of the Daleks - 2007 edition'''

A DVD version of the story with the missing Dalek effect in place present and correct was not available in the UK until the version included in the Davros boxset seven years later. This DVD also includes new documentaries on the making of the story. This 2007 release also, in line with new copyright regulations brought into effect in the ensuing seven years, includes the two original 'The Beatles' music tracks, as originally broadcast.

However, there is an authoring error on the disc which results in the 5.1 track cutting out during one of the junkyard scenes.

This new "special edition" of the story is not available seperately, and can only been attained by purchasing the boxset (which includes several other stories that are unchanged from their previous DVD releases). Rumours are circulating that a seperate release of it will however be available in late 2008.

==The TV Movie==

''Restoration notes''

-A brief flash frame which was accidentally included on the broadcast version (during the gun battle sequence), which was a mistake made during editing back in 1996, was left untouched.

-The bonus isolated music track has been assembled from a commercial CD release of the soundtrack (which ultimately never made it to stores). Some of the isolated music on this track contains cues that aren't actually heard on the main soundtrack in the movie itself.

''Alterations''

-A clean print, as used for the broadcast as part of the BBC Doctor Who night in the late 1990s. This version is the uncut version seen in North America and Australia, unlike the original UK broadcast back in 1996 which had several shots of gunfire and scenes during the hospital scenes censored.

-The original broadcast version also included "fade outs" where the commerical breaks were included for American network television. The version on DVD removes nearly all these fade outs (only one of them still remains, following the scene where the newly regenerated Doctor shouts "Who am I!?!?").

-The credit "Based on the original series broadcast on the BBC", which was included in all previously broadcast versions of the TV Movie in both the UK and other markets, has been digitally removed. This appears to have been an artistic decision, made to "officialise" the movie into the original series canon.
