I have done some testing with the new drawing extension for Google Docs. Here is what I have found:

1. You activate the drawing option by opening or creating a new google document.
2. One person must begin the drawing (which opens a new “drawing window”.)
3. After beginning a drawing, the window must be closed (by clicking the “X” in the top right corner.)
4. The document must now be “saved”
5. If you have not done so previously, you now need to share your document with others.
6. When those you are collaborating with open the document, they will see the drawing. When they click on the drawing, there are choices: Edit, Duplicate, Smaller, Bigger.
7. Now is the fun part of a shared drawing in a document.
     a. If each collaborator clicks on “Edit”, it will open the drawing window.
     b. As one person adds to the drawing, nothing changes on another person’s image.
     c. If, however, a second person begins to add to the drawing, he/she immediately sees the additions from the first editor.
     d. SO ... if you want to see what someone is doing in real time with a drawing, you must attempt to modify the drawing and “force” an update in your drawing window.
8. When you close the drawing window, all changes made (by you or others) shows up in your document.

I have experimented having three different collaborating editors on the same drawing at the same time and find it works quite well. Just remember that you do not automatically see changes being done by a collaborator. Force your drawing window to refresh and see changes by actually adding to the image being drawn.

You can access this “Insert Drawing” feature with a Document, Presentation, or Spreadsheet. I, however, have not figured out how to insert a drawing into a Form yet. I’d appreciate ideas if you figure out how to do that as well.

Have fun with this - I did!
